Title: Centre Manager - Microsensors for Clinical Research and Analysis (MiCRA)
Salary Details: €74,676 p.a
Description: Senior Research Management and Commercialisation Opportunity Microsensors for Clinical Research and Analysis (MiCRA) Applications are invited for the following research management and commercialisation position at the Institute of Technology Tallaght, Dublin funded under Enterprise Ireland's Applied Research Enhancement Programme - MICROSENSORS FOR CLINICAL ANALYSIS (MiCRA) (2006-2011). This established centre (10+ fulltime researchers supported by 3 principal investigators) has a strong portfolio of applied research expertise, making knowledge accessible to local and national industry via a range of on-going projects. The core objective is development of next generation innovative sensor technology platforms in collaboration with industrial partners. Integrated nano/microsensors have been designed for clinical (human and veterinary) diagnostics in addition to environmental (e.g. water testing) applications. The centre is supported by a state of the art surface science/electrochemical suite of equipment, micro fabrication capabilities and dedicated HEA PRTLI Cycle 4 (€9.2M) funded research facilities. Role: Responsibility for commercialisation of research outputs while playing a leading role in the scientific direction of the centre; Engage with industry in the region to establish collaborative projects; Manage the exploitation of generated IP through licence agreement to existing companies or spin out companies; Promotion of the centre as a resource for local and national industry with provision of access to expertise/resources/facilities. Act as liaison between outside parties (academic, industrial, funding agencies etc.) and the academic members of the project management team. The successful candidate will be expected to take a leading role in securing further funding for sustainability and growth of the centre. Requirements: BSc.(Hons), PhD in sensor (nano)technologies or related area. Ideally candidates should have a postgraduate business management qualification or equivalent. A relevant employment record in the diagnostic/medical device industry at senior scientist/management level and/or a record of collaborative R&D consulting and technology transfer from academic to a commercial environment is required. Excellent team building/communication and research management/supervision skills and significant publication/patent record are also pre-requisites.
